Vintage & rare CHOKIN trinket box with calla lilies and a butterfly on the lid. The lid design is gold and silver engraved metal. The trinket box is created in Japan using the ancient art of Chokin.

The technique of Chokin dates to the late 12th century when it became fashionable for Samurai to wear armor and weapons decorated with gilt engraving. These trinket boxes are classic examples of the mid-20th century style, when Chokin became a popular motif for home décor and accessory items such as ladies’ compacts.
